Tō Tātou Aronga | Our Direction

Our direction is shaped by the aspirations of tamariki, whānau, hapū and iwi. We seek to grow confident, capable learners who are secure in their identity, connected to their people and place, and prepared to contribute positively to their communities.

Rangatiratanga, Ako and Kaitiakitanga guide our decisions, relationships and learning. These pou strengthen te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, deepen learning grounded in our local environment and histories, and create meaningful pathways for every ākonga.

He iti Pioke, nō Rangaunu, he au tōna!

Small though the Pioke may be, great is its wake as it moves through the waters of Rangaunu Harbour.

This whakataukī reflects the strength, determination and potential of the tamariki of Te Kura o Waihārara. Like the Pioke moving through the waters of Rangaunu, our tamariki can make a meaningful difference through who they are, what they learn and the contribution they make to their whānau and wider community.

Ō Tātou Uara | Our Values

At Te Kura o Waihārara, our values guide the way we learn, lead, care for one another and make decisions together as a kura community.

They reflect who we are becoming and the aspirations we share with our ākonga, whānau, hapū and iwi. As we continue to strengthen our developing Kura ā Iwi direction, Rangatiratanga, Ako and Kaitiakitanga help guide the way we grow, learn and contribute together.

Ako

Ako recognises that teaching and learning are reciprocal. Everyone brings knowledge, experience and strengths to the learning relationship, and we can all be both learners and teachers.

We encourage our ākonga to be curious, creative and courageous in their learning. They are supported to share what they know, learn with and from others, solve problems, reflect on their progress and contribute to the learning and success of those around them.

Kaitiakitanga

Kaitiakitanga is the responsibility to care for people, culture, resources and the environment for present and future generations.

We support our ākonga to care for the wellbeing and mana of others, respect and protect our whenua, wai and moana, use shared resources responsibly, and strengthen te reo Māori me ōna tikanga. Through these actions, tamariki learn that caring for people and place is a responsibility we all share.

Together, these values support our uri to grow as confident learners and leaders, grounded in their identity, connected to their people and place, and ready to contribute to the future of Muriwhenua.
