You can enrol your child directly at the kura or contact the kura office to kōrero about the enrolment process and receive an enrolment form.

To help us complete the enrolment and support your tamaiti well, we may ask you to provide:

• a birth certificate, passport or other accepted identity document

• your child's full legal name and date of birth

• details of their previous school or early learning service, where applicable

• parent, caregiver and emergency contact details

• relevant health, allergy, learning or wellbeing information

• details of any learning, communication, mobility or other support your child currently receives

• copies of any relevant parenting, custody, access or protection documents the kura needs to be aware of.

The kura will locate or confirm your child's National Student Number (NSN) as part of the enrolment process.

Every eligible tamaiti has the right to enrol and attend during all the hours the kura is open for instruction. Tamariki with disabilities or learning support needs have the same right to participate fully in kura life, with appropriate support to help them access learning and activities alongside their peers.

Your child can start at Te Kura o Waihārara from the age of five and must be enrolled in a school or kura by their sixth birthday.

Once your child has started kura, they are expected to attend every day the kura is open unless they are unwell or there is another justified reason for absence.

We encourage whānau to contact us early so we can make the transition into kura welcoming, familiar and positive.

Together, we can:

• discuss a suitable starting date

• arrange an enrolment hui

• organise pre-entry visits

• introduce your tamaiti to their kaiako and classmates

• help them become familiar with our people, places and daily routines.

Our aim is for every tamaiti to begin their journey at Te Kura o Waihārara feeling safe, connected and ready to belong.

Choosing a kura is an important decision for whānau. We warmly welcome prospective whānau to visit Te Kura o Waihārara, meet our people, see our learning environment and kōrero with us about the aspirations you hold for your tamaiti.

A visit is an opportunity to learn more about our kura, our values, our developing Kura ā Iwi direction and the way we work alongside whānau, hapū and iwi.

We can also talk through enrolment, school transport, learning support, transition visits and any questions you may have about your child starting at Te Kura o Waihārara.
